“It is an honor to meet you!”
Joanne Shofner is a conservative candidate for these serious times running for State Representative. She is prepared to defend and protect the rights of children, parents and the Texas borders. As a 7th-generation Texan with East Texas roots, she shares the District 11’s conservative values of life, liberty, and freedom. She is loyally passionate about God, family, community, and the Lone Star State.
Joanne Shofner chose to serve her community through her enthusiasm for politics and now is the President of Nacogdoches County Republican Women. Through her leadership and with the help of her board, the club is now one of the larger clubs in Texas. Joanne also serves on the Nacogdoches Historical Landmark Preservation Committee as well as the finance committee at her church. Her small business as a trained Christian Life Coach is her passion as she helps empower women in recovery from the traumatic experiences of abuse and betrayal. She has also written and taught Bible studies and led women’s retreats for 20 years. As a former manager for Hyatt Hotels, Joanne utilized her degree in hotel and restaurant management from the Hilton School at the University of Houston. Joanne Shofner is a leader, business owner, teacher and public servant.
Joanne and her husband David Shofner have a long history of being deeply involved in their church and East Texas community. They enjoy spending time with their combined families of seven children, their spouses and six grandchildren.
They also enjoy their three rescue dogs and one cat. Down time includes Texas road trips, trail riding, and marveling at God’s creation. Joanne and David also have a passion for the historical legacy of East Texas as well as our country, wanting to learn from those who came before us about the importance of preserving the good, the true and the beautiful.
Joanne Shofner was born and raised in a family of entrepreneurs and public servants in the Houston area. Family businesses include commercial real estate, construction and development as well as banking and finance. Public service has included serving on boards of universities and public school systems, civic organizations, and state organizations appointed by multiple governors. The multi-generational message in her family has always been God, family, working hard and public service.
As a conservative, Joanne recognizes that it’s time for a true Republican leader to represent District 11 at the Capitol. A vote for Joanne Shofner is a vote for a true conservative with the strength to defend Texans with integrity, transparency and honesty.
David Shofner’s family has a deeply rooted history as residents of the Lone Star State. Generations before him relocated to Texas around 1834 and landed in Nacogdoches County several years later. David, a graduate of Nacogdoches High School, attended the University of Texas in Austin for three years and graduated from Stephen F. Austin University in 1978. He then furthered his studies for two more years at SFA.
David retired from his 40+ year tenure at Commercial Bank of Texas in December of 2021. Working in the Trust Department of CBTx, he proved himself a valuable asset to the team, growing the department nearly $200 million in assets.
Though David considers himself retired, he continues to play an active role farming and ranching his land, and managing the activities of oil, gas and timber properties.
David shared a first marriage with the late Frances Adams along with their three children before her untimely passing in June 2017. He later married Joanne in February of 2023 along with her four children. Together, they share six grandchildren.
David has served Fredonia Rotary Club and Nacogdoches Humane Society as President in past years. Additionally, he has served on both civic and private boards in Nacogdoches and Nacogdoches County. Today, he is pleased to serve on the Vestry of Christ Episcopal Church, the Finance Committee of Christ Episcopal Church and the Board of Zoning Adjustments for the City of Nacogdoches.
